McConaughey defends 'rude' New Yorkers
MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY - McCONAUGHEY DEFENDS RUDE NEW YORKERS: "Hollywood hunk MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY has blasted his fellow Texans for accusing New York residents of being rude.
The SAHARA star claims many Americans misinterpret New Yorkers' attitudes because their southern lifestyle is so laid-back compared to busy city life of Big Apple dwellers.
McConaughey tells the NEW YORK POST, 'New York has this stigma. People in Texas or California are like, 'No one is that nice in New York.'
'I'm like, 'Bulls**t man!' The difference is, people in New York are going somewhere.'"

McConaughey plans more Dirk Pitt movies
Digital Spy: McConaughey plans more Dirk Pitt movies: "Following the success of Sahara, its star and co-producer Matthew McConaughey has voiced hopes of continuing the franchise based upon Clive Cussler's books.
He told USA Today: 'I'd been looking for that renaissance guy. Everything I'd read that was a possible franchise character in the action-adventure genre was either too roadhouse, just fighting and running around, or they were too prim and proper, never getting their hands dirty.'
'(Pitt is) a senator's son, but a scavenger of the deep. He can talk marine biology with you at noon and then at one o'clock be dealing gold bullion with smugglers and pirates.'
However, Sahara will have to find favour with Cussler if more films are to follow, after he tried to block production of further Pitt movies earlier this year when he disapproved of changes Sahara made to his book."

'Sahara', with Matthew McConaughey, Tops North American Box Office
Reuters | Latest Financial News / Full News Coverage: "'Sahara,' the year's first action-adventure film, took the top spot at the North American box office over the weekend, with the noir 'Sin City' sliding to No. 2 in its second week.
A marketing push through the U.S. heartland paid off for the PG-13-rated 'Sahara' in its first weekend. It drew a broad audience that was less skewed toward older males, the film's primary target, according to studio executives.
The film racked up $18.5 million at North American theaters, exceeding industry expectations of $10 million to $12 million, according to box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations. Final results will be available on Monday.
'This really delivers in multiple audience (segments) which is really exciting for us,' said Cary Granite, president of Anschutz Film Group, which produced the film under its Bristol Bay label.
Released by Paramount Pictures, 'Sahara' features an Indiana Jones-type character played by Matthew McConaughey in search of a lost Civil War battleship. Also starring are Penelope Cruz and William H. Macy. Paramount is a unit of Viacom Inc."

A chat with Matthew McConaughey
A chat with Matthew McConaughey: "On really good days, you have a little Matthew McConaughey in the morning and a perfect turkey club for lunch.
The sun above Miami, where you rendezvous, is warm. Matthew pulls two chairs together under a tree in the Delano hotel's grassy courtyard where you sit and talk with him about his new movie 'Sahara,' and about what kind of man he is.
He looks in your eyes, leaning close enough to make it clear he is completely focused. (Or maybe he's acting. Who knows? Who cares?) You notice his fine clothes, his wavy hair and the blond stubble on his chin. You listen to his Texas-steeped voice soften consonants, pouring them out like sweet tea.
And you like him.
As you part company he thoughtfully says, 'Don't forget your purse, Dear.' You smile, he smiles. His eyes crinkle at the edges.
You float away toward a table on the terrace where you order your favorite sandwhich off the hotel's menu, with its soft bread and apple-smoked bacon."

McConaughey has roadside chat with AP
AP Wire | 04/05/2005 | McConaughey has roadside chat with AP: "Matthew McConaughey is in the driver's seat. During a recent interview, the actor is literally sitting behind the wheel of the Ford pickup that's pulling his Airstream trailer across the country during a six-week promo trip for his new action flick, 'Sahara.'
Crashing in trailer parks, swinging by Atlanta Braves spring training or parked in Manhattan, McConaughey is going all out for the movie he stars in, produced, and hopes will build him a new 'Indiana Jones' style franchise.
It's now been a dozen years since the 35-year-old actor debuted in the last-day-of-school cult classic 'Dazed and Confused.' Since then he's piled up a varied filmography ('A Time to Kill,' 'The Wedding Planner,' 'Frailty'), but never quite broken through to the superstar status for which he seemed destined.
During a recent pit stop, McConaughey both checked the rearview mirror and pondered the road ahead."

McConaughey deciphers Cruz's Spanish curse
McConaughey deciphers Cruz's Spanish curse !: "Actor Matthew McConaughey did not let girlfriend Penelope Cruz know that he knows Spanish, while they shot their latest movie "Sahara" in Morocco.
McConaughey understood every word of Madrid-born Cruz's regular swears on set in Morocco as she endured the shoot sessions with him, meeting blinding sandstorms, spiders, and snakes in the process.
"I understand more (Spanish) than she knows! I just haven't told her yet. I just pretended not to know what kind of cuss words she was using!", Femalefirst quoted him assaying."

Details' revealing look at Matthew McConaughey
baltimoresun.com - Details' revealing look at Matthew McConaughey: "IF I DON'T want to wear clothes, I don't have to, you know? It feels better that way. I ain't harmin' nobody!'
So says Matthew McConaughey in the April issue of Details.
Matthew, whom I always consider my 'discovery' since I wrote about him first, is on the cover (dressed) and inside (mostly dressed). The actor, as per Details, 'drinks tequila for breakfast.' And why not? (As long as it gets him out of his clothes.) Of his friendship with Penelope Cruz, he says he took her on the road for barbecue and 'meeting up with odd characters.' Writer David Amsden seemed unsure about the elegant Cruz touring trailer parks, but Matthew insists, 'Oh, she loves it! You can't not love it!'
So now we know what Penelope didn't get from Tom Cruise -- trailer parks."
